This weekend is Provincial Race 7 & 8 in St. Albert...good luck to all Calgary club members who are going to compete!
NOTE: If you have Bingo Credits available, your family name will be on a list at registration in St. Albert. Let them know you are from Calgary BMX and your fees will be covered. If your family name is not on the list, and you think it should be, don't give them a hard time...just pay and talk to Peter Bryson at the track the following week. The weekend after is the CCA National Championships in Abbotsford (August 31st to September 1st). We've submitted an application to AGLC to allow the use of bingo credits for this out of province race and would expect approval within the next week.
Calgary Bingo Credits
For those who are new to Calgary BMX Racing, as a club we work a bingo once per month (more or less) and you can earn a portion of the proceeds to use for approved BMX racing expenses (such as travel and accommodation costs or Provincial Race entrance fees - bikes and associated expenses are not claimable). If you are unfamiliar with the process and have bingo credits, email This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it and Peter will email the claim forms and process.
Provincial Grands Preparation
By now most of you have seen that the first and third corners are paved and ready to go...this week we've also sealed and conditioned the second corner and are working on the start hill. We are currently about three weeks away from the Grands and there is a ton of work required to get the track and facility ready. Over the next couple of weeks we want to get some things cleaned up and set up around the track, so stay tuned for some general work party announcements. Also, the week before (starting on September 3rd) we will be working every night on the track and cleaning up the facility. Be prepared to put in some volunteer hours that week and through the event weekend as well.
Grands Raffle Table
We are still in need of items for our raffle table. We've had a good response so far, but need more items. We were in the Home Depot the other day, buying supplies for the track, and asked the manager if they could donate an item. He indicated that he had discretion to donate small items (up to about $50.00 per item) and if we brought a letter he would donate items on the spot. Our experience with retail is that if you ask they will help out...especially if they're acknowledged for it. If you think you can get an item donation from a retailer, or from your own place of business, and require a sponsorship letter, please email Candi at This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it and she will be happy to work with you on that. Also, if you have items and have not told Candi about them yet please email her or let her know at the track.
Thank you in advance to all our members and volunteers for your tireless efforts toward helping us host the races in 'GRANDS' style...after all, we're Stampede City, so let's show the province how Calgary can put on an event!
