We are so excited to get this season underway and wanted to tell you what to expect in the coming weeks.

We are looking for people that are are interested in coaching, specifically for our Monday evening novice practice. There is a Coaching Course May 12 and 13 at our track. You can sign up through ABA's website and we will reimburse you the cost. Without the help of our great volunteers this sport cannot happen so we really appreciate all the help we can get! Even if you or your rider are new the sport this is a great opportunity to be on the track helping those kids get fast! Monday evenings from 6:30-8 p.m. is practice for Novice or riders new to BMX. Coaches will include Bruno Stappers and our head coach Sascha Chirzynski. All of our coaches are certified and are amazing with kids! The very first practice is tentatively scheduled for Monday, May 14, 2018.
We will also be having a New Rider Orientation and Parent Night on Monday, May 7. We will go over all the BMX basics and be able to answer any questions you may have like: Is my kid in the right bike? What is a race night? What does Novice or Intermediate mean? There will be no riding but you can check out the track, the bike shed and get sized for bikes. I know when we first started BMX I would have loved a night like this as it can feel overwhelming at first.
Tuesday nights are is our Calgary BMX Race Team practice from 6:30-7:30 PM, starting May 15, weather permitting. The Calgary BMX Race Team is a voluntary, amateur race team. Our race team coaches this year will be Darcy and Erin Frank. To sign up, please come prepared to fill in a form with your name, age, class and goals (goals will also be covered in the first couple weeks). Erin and Darcy are going to start 15 minutes early for those who like to stretch, but practice will start at 6:30 with a few warm up laps. The focus will be on provincials, so learning about the differences and strategies for the different track layouts. Other topics will be bike maintenance, fitness nutrition, and some whiteboard time during the water break at 7:00 PM.
Wednesday is our Calgary District Race Night. Our first race is tentatively scheduled for May 16, 2018. Registration can be done online on our District Racing web page or at the track. Racing begins at 7 p.m. Racing is for racers with a valid UCI BMX license or Calgary BMX members with a General Membership license. Please arrive an hour early in order to warm up and check-in.
Thursday is our Intermediate or Expert coaching. Come on out to get faster, get stronger and continue improving on the fundamentals of riding. Practice times are 6:30-7:30 p.m. followed by open track. Coaches to be announced. This coaching starts May 17, 2018, weather permitting.
Open Track will be every Tuesday and Thursday from 7:30-9 p.m. Open track is a great opportunity to come ride and have unstructured time on the track. For other open track dates visit our event calendar or Facebook page.
Please ensure all riders are properly equipped in full riding gear which entails long pants (preferably motocross pants, no jeans), long sleeved shirt, gloves and full faced helmets. There will be loaner bikes available and a helmet if your rider does not have one yet or you are unsure about what they should be using.
